Privacy Policy
Background
The following privacy policy outlines how One Wisconsin Now, Inc. ("OWN") handles the information you provide to us. Please note that the policy does not apply to external website links (see External Website Links and Third Parties, below).
When you contribute to OWN, either by mail, telephone or online, the donations are not deductible for federal income tax purposes and will not be used to support or oppose any candidates.
When you sign up to receive our e-newsletter or through any of our action activities, OWN asks you to include your name, zip code and email address. This information is used by us to provide you with updates on recent news and other timely information. Please note that as an organization that works closely with other progressive groups, we may share some basic information with affiliated organizations.
Member Info
All information entered into OWN by Member is private to Member except to the extent otherwise provided for herein or to the extent that Member opts to share that information with other OWN members and/or the public, through OWN, the Site or otherwise. It is OWN’s policy to respect the privacy of Members. Therefore, without Member’s prior consent or to the extent otherwise provided for herein, OWN will not disclose to any third party Member’s name or contact information, except that OWN may provide such information to the administrator(s) of any “group” that Member joins on the Site. OWN will also not monitor, edit, or disclose the contents of a Member’s information unless required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to: (1) conform to the requirements of applicable law or comply with legal process served on OWN; (2) protect and defend the rights or property of OWN; or (3) act under exigent circumstances to protect the personal safety of any person; (4) fix or debug problems with the OWN software/service. OWN encourages Member to visit this page periodically to review OWN’s current policy.
Petitions and Surveys
For petitions and surveys signed or completed by Member, OWN may treat Member’s name, city, state, and comments as public information-for example, OWN may provide compilations of petitions, with Member’s comments, to public officials, but in no such case may OWN disclose Member’s street address, email address or phone number, without Member’s prior consent. OWN may also make Member’s comments, along with Member’s first name, city, state, and country, available to the press and public online.
Emails
OWN will enable Member to send individual e-mails through the Site in Member’s name, and in connection with such emails, OWN may disclose Member’s e-mail address as the return address to public officials. If Member writes letters or emails to newspapers using the Site, OWN may disclose Member’s email address and full name and contact information as part of the submission.
Cookies
Parts of the Site are password-protected. If Member checks “Remember Me” upon log-in, OWN may use a “cookie” to enable Member to return to password-protected areas of the website without having to re-enter Member’s password.
Data Tracking
From time to time, OWN may periodically analyze web logs in order to understand traffic patterns and determine whether there are problems with the Site. OWN may also use embedded images in emails to track open rates for mailings, so that OWN can tell which mailings appeal most to OWN members. In no case, however, shall OWN disclose data about OWN members’ behavior to any organization other than OWN.
URLs
OWN may use URLs in emails that contain an id enabling OWN to correctly identify the person who takes an action using a web page. OWN may use these URLs to simplify the process of signing petitions and filling out surveys. OWN may occasionally present a shortened URL that references a longer URL which contains an id in order to prevent links from becoming broken when copied, and to ensure compatibility with email programs which do not handle long URLs. If OWN displays a shortened URL in an email, Member may see the full URL in the browser’s address bar when member accesses the page.
External Website Links And Third Parties
The OWN privacy policy does not apply to external website links. Furthermore, should Member choose to voluntarily disclose information at http://www.onewisconsinnow.org (“Site”), that information can be collected by third parties. By registering with OWN, Member acknowledges that the use of information at the Site by third parties is beyond the control of OWN and its affiliates and that OWN is not responsible or liable for the conduct of third parties.
Children’s Online Privacy Protection
We care about the safety and privacy of children online, and therefore comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA). COPPA, and its accompanying FTC regulations, establish United States federal law that protects the privacy of children under the age of 13. Our site is not intended to solicit information of any kind from children under 13. We never knowingly accept any information of any kind from children under 13 years of age. If you believe we may be in receipt of information in relation to children under 13, please inform us at own@onewisconsinnow.org
