Gov. Walker Set to Travel to Nebraska to Campaign For a ‘Friend’

MADISON, Wis. — Media reports from Omaha, Nebraska say Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker will be traveling there on January 27th to campaign on behalf of Republican gubernatorial candidate Pete Ricketts. Ricketts is a multi-millionaire with a reported distaste for paying his fair share of taxes. He ran a largely self-funded and unsuccessful, campaign for U.S. Senate in 2006 and, along with other members of his family, donated $420,000 to help defeat the 2012 recall of Gov. Walker.

The following are the statements of One Wisconsin Now Executive Director Scot Ross regarding the latest out-of-state jaunt related to Gov. Walker’s personal political ambitions:

“Pete Ricketts is the kind of person who is simply irresistible to Gov. Walker — a right-wing millionaire who doesn’t like paying his fair share of taxes and is willing to shower the politicians that pander to people like him with campaign cash.

“Give Gov. Walker credit, when he says ‘thanks a million’ he means it. Time and again he’s shown he’ll do whatever it takes to pay back his political benefactors be it traveling to Nebraska, privatizing public education or handing out tax giveaway after tax giveaway to benefit the wealthy and corporations.

“Unfortunately for those of us who haven’t made six figure contributions to boost his political fortunes, we’re stuck with a Governor who’s crisscrossing the country instead of doing his job here.

“And when Gov. Walker is spending time in Wisconsin, he’s attacking our public schools or proposing more of the same, failed trickle-down economics tax giveaways to the wealthy and corporations that have left us among the worst states in the nation on jobs.”
