State Job Website Falls Tens of Thousands of Jobs Short of Claimed Listings

Once Again Gov. Walker Misleads Wisconsin and Fails to Meet Jobs Boast

MADISON, Wis. — Gov. Scott Walker and his Department of Workforce Development publicly tout over 70,000 job openings as being posted on a state website, jobcenterofwisconsin.com. But according to a Channel 27 News report on One Wisconsin Now’s review of the site, the reality is that Gov. Walker has once again come up far short on a jobs number – over 20,000 fewer jobs in fact, and the site even lists roughly 13,000 openings for jobs outside of the state of Wisconsin.

One Wisconsin Now Executive Director Scot Ross commented, “Once again we see Gov. Walker failing to deliver on a jobs boast. He failed miserably on his promise to create 250,000 new jobs and now he’s misleading Wisconsin with inflated job numbers and jobs that aren’t even in the state.”

As reported by Channel 27, Gov. Walker has on several occasions boasted of “over 70,000” listings for open positions on a state jobs website overseen by his Department of Workforce Development. In addition the front page of the site, when reviewed earlier this week, indicates there were over 77,000 open positions listed. But an examination found that there were some 20,000 fewer actual listings on the site, including 13,000 jobs that were located outside of Wisconsin.

“Wisconsin is last in the Midwest on jobs under Gov. Walker, and according to him everyone and everything else is to blame – even video game enthusiasts and the Greek debt crisis. It would be nice if for once Gov. Walker fessed up and admitted that he broke his promise to Wisconsin on jobs and his economic agenda of tax giveaways to the wealthy and corporations and record cuts to public education just didn’t work,” concluded Ross.
