One Wisconsin Now Joins With Worker Advocates Opposing Efforts to Weaken Wisconsin Laws Protecting Wisconsin Families
‘It’s Time to Reject Policies That Only Further Tip the Scales Against Working People and Come Together on a 21st Century Economic Agenda’
MADISON, Wis. — One Wisconsin Now today joined with fellow advocates for Wisconsin families in speaking out against measures before the legislature that would undermine current protections in state law for workers and override local ordinances providing additional protections.
At a press conference in Madison, speakers celebrated the 25th Anniversary of the Wisconsin Family and Medical Leave Act and highlighted the damaging consequences of Republican bills to reduce family and medical leave benefits in the state and nullify additional worker protections in local ordinances.
The following are the statements of One Wisconsin Now Program Director Analiese Eicher:
“Rolling back protections that help ensure women and men earn the same wages for the same work, undermining local laws that protect workers regardless of gender identity and weakening family and medical leave benefits are policies that hurt instead of help Wisconsin families.
“It’s time to reject policies that only further tip the scales against working people and come together on a 21st century economic agenda that offers real help for Wisconsin families.
“And we can do that by passing bills that help with the cost of child care, expand family and medical leave, offer paid sick leave for all, provide secure employment retirement and help borrower refinance student loans, just like you can with a mortgage.”
