Brad Schimel Cut Deal as Waukesha County DA to Let Sex Offender Off With Slap on Wrist

MADISON, Wis. — A man charged with third degree sexual assault, a felony punishable by up to ten years in prison and a $25,000 fine, walked away with no jail time, thanks to Waukesha County District Attorney and state Attorney General candidate Brad Schimel. Instead, the defendant received a deferred prosecution deal for a misdemeanor and a court record that showed the charges against him were dropped.

“The victim in this case sought help from the defendant for a health issue, but was instead assaulted by him, according to the court records,” said One Wisconsin Now Executive Director Scot Ross. “The victim sought justice through Waukesha County District Attorney Brad Schimel, but instead she saw the man who assaulted her walk away with no jail time and a slap on the wrist.”

According to graphic court records, a 36-year-old female victim sought treatment for abdominal pain from Raphael Aghaluke, a homeopathic treatment provider. Aghaluke directed the woman to lay on the floor and subsequently placed his hands inside her underwear, attempted to kiss her and assaulted her. Immediately after the assault, according to the court records, Aghaluke showed visible signs of sexual arousal. In the days following the assault, he attempted to call the victim in excess of twenty times.

When questioned by the police, Aghaluke initially claimed he did not even know the victim and changed several details of his story over the course of two police interviews.

Recently, Schimel said he was satisfied with the result of the case that left the perpetrator on the streets with no jail time and without a felony on his record. Schimel claims he only filed felony charges to get Mr. Aghaluke to “get serious” about the situation.

Ross said it was Schimel who needed to get serious about the case and plea deal he signed. He concluded, “Brad Schimel and his special interest friends have a responsibility to come clean about Schimel’s outrageous plea deal. Schimel has not only repeatedly looked the other way on corruption for fellow politicians, but also let a perpetrator who sexually assault a woman who came to him for help with health issues walk free with no jail time.”
