U.S. Senator Ron Johnson Attack on Affordable Care Act Tagged as ‘Political Stunt’, Even by Fellow Republicans
People Deserve Answers: Who’s Footing the Bill for Johnson’s Quest to Bring Back Lifetime Caps and Denying Coverage for Pre-Existing Conditions?
MADISON, Wis. — The following are the statements of One Wisconsin Now Executive Director Scot Ross regarding a lawsuit attacking provisions of the Affordable Care Act announced today by U.S. Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin:
“Who would have thought that the best characterization of the legal action announced by Sen. Johnson today would come from fellow Wisconsin Republican Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner, who labeled it ‘likely frivolous’ and an ‘unfortunate political stunt’?
“Behind Sen. Johnson’s sideshow is the fact he wants to repeal the Affordable Care Act. For that he owes an explanation to the people of Wisconsin. We deserve answers to why he’s willing to let horrible things like lifetime caps, and denials of coverage for pre-existing conditions come back, and why he wants to take away healthcare insurance from people who will have it through the exchanges.
“Sen. Johnson also needs to come clean on who’s footing the legal bills he’s racking up in his quest to undermine people’s access to quality, affordable health care.
“Is millionaire Sen. Johnson paying for the suit to hike his employees’ health care costs? Will he pay himself back from the treasury of his business, as it was alleged he may have for his 2010 election campaign? Or is he getting the benefit of free legal services from the legal group who’s activity is bankrolled by the Bradley Foundation, headed by Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker’s campaign co-chair?”
