MADISON, Wis. — With the victory of Rebecca Dallet over Michael Screnock, progressives have won an open seat on the Wisconsin State Supreme Court for the first time since 1995.
The following are the statements of One Wisconsin Now Executive Director Scot Ross:
“If Scott Walker thought Democrats winning a state Senate race in January was a ‘WAKE UP CALL,’ Rebecca Dallet’s win tonight is a massive electoral earthquake.
“Progressives have won a statewide race for an open Wisconsin State Supreme Court seat for the first time since 1995, when Scott Walker was still a wet behind the ears member of the State Assembly. And it wasn’t for a lack of trying by Wisconsin’s right wing machine that spent over $2.8 million on this race.
“The Republican Party of Wisconsin poured $420,000 into the campaign coffers of Michael Screnock, Gov. Walker’s former lawyer who defended his Act 10 and the GOP’s efforts to rig Wisconsin’s state legislative district lines and his hand-picked candidate for the court.
“The Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce spent $1.6 million, including $1 million in their desperation to win on a hideous television ad providing identifying information about children who were the victims of sexual abuse.
“This win shows progressives are energized across the state and will use the ballot box to make Wisconsin better.”
