MADISON, Wis. — One Wisconsin Now will host “Rock the Pantry,” a progressive rally to help feed Wisconsin at Madison’s historic Majestic Theater the day of Wisconsin’s 2011 inauguration. All proceeds from tickets will go directly to charities assisting people hit hardest by the economic collapse.

“Rock the Pantry,” which will celebrate the energy and dedication of Wisconsin progressives, is a stark difference to the political fundraisers planned for inauguration day by Republican Gov.-elect Scott Walker that fill his campaign account and Republican Party of Wisconsin coffers.

“Gov.-elect Scott Walker and his Republican legislative majority are targeting the needy for drastic budget cuts,” said Scot Ross, One Wisconsin Now Executive Director. “Scott Walker may not care about people tossed out of work because of the Republican policies which collapsed the economy, but progressives do, and we’re going to raise money to help those in need.”

Walker announced last week that 100 percent of all contributions to his various inaugural events will go toward either his campaign account or the Republican Party of Wisconsin. Using proceeds raised from his 2003 and 2007 inaugural events, Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle donated over $500,000 to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Wisconsin.

“Rock the Pantry” will be held at the Majestic Theater on King Street in Madison from 7-10p.m. The event will include progressive speakers, DJ Andrew Larson from Saturn’s 8 and live music. A full entertainment line-up will be announced this month.

“Progressives are energized, dedicated and ready to fight against Republican attempts to cut taxes for the rich and big business by slashing education, health care and programs which help the middle class and those most in need,” said Ross. “Scott Walker and his Republican leaders pay lip service to working families – progressives are putting our money where our mouths are.”
