Simac Soulmate Tom Tiffany Has Paid Zero in State Income Taxes for Last Four Years

Tom Tiffany Has Business, Property, Clients, Yet State Revenue Records Show He Also Avoided Paying State Income Taxes

MADISON, Wis. — Rep. Tom Tiffany (R-Hazelhurst) has paid no state income taxes for the past four years, despite having a business, property and business clients, according to records from the Wisconsin Department of Revenue obtained by One Wisconsin Now, as well as Tiffany’s Statement of Economic Interests.

“Tom Tiffany is by all accounts a thriving business owner and multiple-property owner, but unlike the rest of us, he doesn’t pay state income taxes — just like Kim Simac,” said Scot Ross, One Wisconsin Now Executive Director. “Kim Simac and Tom Tiffany are out of touch and simply think the rules the rest of us follow don’t apply to them.”

Records obtained from the Department of Revenue in 2010 show that Tiffany has had no state income tax burden for the past four years of 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009. Figures for 2010 had not been filed at the time of One Wisconsin Now’s request.

According to Tiffany’s Statement of Economic Interests, he operates the business Wisconsin River Cruises. In addition, he has five separate clients, tenants and customers, as well as non-commercial real estate in addition to his primary residence. Tiffany also lists his household as having received money over from a second employer and lists at least two additional sources of income in excess of $1,000. Tiffany only lists two creditors, one for his home mortgage and one for a business loan.

Tiffany is defending Tea Party member Kim Simac, who also has paid no state income taxes numerous times over the past decade, despite touting her real world experience, including as a small business owner and author and publisher of numerous books.

“If Kim Simac and Tom Tiffany are simply failed business owners who haven’t paid state income taxes because of that, they just need to get their stories straight,” said Ross. “They can’t pretend to have real-world know-how, and at the same time they don’t pay taxes like the rest of us.”
