What Does Lowell Holtz Have to Say About American Majority Now? Nothing.

Candidate Previously Bragged of Help From Group Whose Wisconsin Leader Distributed Appalling Internet Meme Equating Support for Women’s Suffrage With Klu Klux Klan

MADISON, Wis. — In a possibly illegal email sent on public time from his public email, candidate for state Superintendent of Public Instruction Lowell Holtz bragged that the right wing group American Majority had provided him with a campaign plan. According to One Wisconsin Now Executive Director Scot Ross, Holtz has surpassed the unseemliness of his email brag not with his words but with his silence after the Wisconsin Executive Director of American Majority posted an incredibly incendiary meme on his social media.

“Lowell Holtz was quick to brag about American Majority working for him on his public email on public time,” said Ross. “But his silence, failing to denounce the vile racism and sexism their executive director spread on his social media account is deafening.”

On Wednesday morning, Wisconsin’s American Majority head tweeted an image in response to Democratic women in Congress wearing white Tuesday night as a nod to the suffrage movement in which he explicitly equated them with the Klu Klux Klan. See the image here.

As reported by multiple state media outlets, Holtz was corresponding via his official email, during the middle of a work day in May 2016, about his campaign activity and seeking additional support for his run. In the correspondence he name dropped American Majority, bragging the group had “…developed and provided us with a campaign plan that we will officially kick off in late June.” Holtz was previously discovered in other emails discussing possible support from “outside groups” while on the job as a public employee.

Ross also noted that Holtz was revealed to have engaged in discussions to support his primary election opponent in what appears to be an election bribe that included a guaranteed state job at an annual salary of $150,000 for three years, a state provided chauffeur and full state benefits.

One Wisconsin Now has filed requests for investigations of Holtz’s potential election bribe and campaigning on public time with the Wisconsin Elections Commission and the District Attorneys in Milwaukee and Rock counties.

He concluded, “We’re learning a lot about Lowell Holtz as he campaigns for public office. And now we can add cowardly, racist and sexist to unscrupulous, dishonest, lacking ethics and refusing to take responsibility for his actions.”
