State’s Two Largest Newspapers Change Grover Norquist from a “Zealot” to an “Advocate,” “Activist”
Apparently, some editing gremlins at both the Wisconsin State Journal and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel feel confident that anti-tax zealot Grover Norquist is not an ‘anti-tax zealot.’
So much so they edited the description of ‘zealot’ from Saturday’s Associated Press story from this weekend’s round-up of the teabaggers’ latest ‘Republican Rally for Failure’ held in the Wisconsin Dells.The State Journal edited the story to refer to Norquist, a speaker at the event along with other luminaries like non-plumber Sam Wurzelbacher and Scott Jensen mentor Supreme Court Justice David Prosser, into an “anti-tax advocate’ in its Sunday publishing of the story, while the Journal Sentinel made it ‘anti-tax activist’ for its online reprint of the story.
The Journal Sentinel also deleted comments from opponents of the ‘Failure in the Dells,’ such as One Wisconsin Now. Curiously, the State Journal deleted ‘zealot’ from the print version, but it remains in the online version.
Again, we’re talking about Grover Norquist.
Norquist, a close former associate of imprisoned GOP uber-lobbyist Jack Abramoff, famously said of government, the he wanted ‘to reduce it to the size where I can drag it into the bathroom and drown it in the bathtub.’
He also said ‘bipartisanship is another name for date rape.’
Interestingly, for the hardworking farmers of Wisconsin, he also said, ‘Every time you cut programs, you take away a person who has a vested interest in high taxes and you put him on the tax rolls and make him a taxpayer. A farmer on subsidies is part welfare bum, whereas a free-market farmer is a small businessman with a gun.’
Yeah, this guy’s not a zealot.
At least according to the so-called ‘liberal’ media.
