First Democratic Presidential Debate Comes Down to Three Words

MADISON, Wis. — One Wisconsin Now Executive Director Scot Ross released the following statements following the first Democratic Presidential candidate debate held in Nevada this evening.

“The most important difference between the Democratic candidates for president and their Republican counterparts comes down to three words: Student. Loan. Debt.

“While the major Democratic candidates for president all called for common sense reforms like allowing borrowers to refinance their student loans, just like you can a mortgage or auto loan, the Republicans want even more cuts to public education and are blaming hardworking student loan borrowers for not being born rich.

“The fact is: Gov. Scott Walker slashed the university and technical college systems in Wisconsin by $700 million, left 41,000 eligible students without financial aid, students are paying hundreds of millions of dollars more in tuition and he opposes a Wisconsin plan to let hundreds of thousands of student loan borrowers here refinance their loans like you can a mortgage.

“And maybe that’s why Scott Walker is sitting in a chair pondering the next episode of ‘Dancing with the Stars’ instead of prepping for the next Republican debate.”
