Speaker Ryan Kicks Off ‘Bold Agenda’ With More of the Same As GOP Votes for at Least Fifty-Fifth Time to Repeal Affordable Care Act
Yet Another Display of Ryan’s Disappointing Hypocrisy
MADISON, Wis. — U.S. Representative Paul Ryan ascended to Speaker of the House of Representatives promising a “bold alternative agenda.” But today the Ryan-led House is voting for at least the fifty-fifth time to repeal the Affordable Care Act that has helped millions of Americans access health care and bans egregious insurance industry practices like dropping coverage when individuals get sick and charging women more than men for the same coverage.
The following are the statements of One Wisconsin Now Executive Director Scot Ross:
“It’s hard to see how attempting to repeal the Affordable Care Act for at least the fifty-fifth time in five years is in any way the bold, alternative agenda that Rep. Ryan promised.
“In fact, much like his demands for family time for himself while voting against efforts to expand leave for parents to be with their children or family members to care for loved ones, Paul Ryan consistently displays a disappointing hypocrisy in taking benefits for himself that he’s unwilling to give to the rest of us.”
