Sen. Ron Johnson Is On a Bus Tour With a Trump

MADISON, Wis. — In the closing days of his 2016 campaign, U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson is reportedly on a bus tour with Donald Trump’s son, Eric. One Wisconsin Now Executive Director Scot Ross noted how fitting it is for Johnson, who has amassed an appalling record on issues related to sexual violence against women, is touring the state with the son of Donald Trump. Eric Trump has defended his father after he was caught on tape on a bus bragging about sexually assaulting women and getting away with it, saying, “ … sometimes that’s what happens when alpha personalities are in the same presence.”

“One can only imagine what we would hear if Sen. Johnson and Donald Trump’s son Eric’s conversations on their bus tour were recorded,” commented Ross. “Johnson’s appalling record on issues of sexual violence against women certainly qualifies him to be a Trump traveling companion.”

Ross noted that in addition to endorsing and appearing at a recent Wisconsin rally with Donald Trump, Sen. Johnson’s record calls into question not just his judgment but whether or not he takes sexual assault and sexual harassment issues seriously:

“U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson, his chief of staff and a Waukesha County GOP official were all told three years ago of allegations that a then-aide to the senator had been sexually assaulted by state Rep. Bill Kramer, but none of them took the matter to the police or Assembly leaders.”

Johnson Questioned If Sexual Harassment Incident Occurred in US Senate
“Republican Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson is not buying fellow Senator Kirsten Gillibrand’s recent claim that she was subject to sexual harassment and fat-shaming within the hallowed halls of the Senate. He’s not buying it at all. On the NewsmaxTV show “The Steve Malzberg Show,” Johnson addressed Gillibrand’s remarks, saying that if she actually had been harassed, she should be able to name names. He simply cannot just take her word for it.”

Johnson Voted Against the Violence Against Women Act
“In a statement Wednesday, GOP Sen. Ron Johnson said he voted against re-authorizing the Violence Against Women Act because it contained “serious flaws,” including an “unconstitutional expansion of tribal authority. Johnson was one of 22 senators – all Republicans – who voted Tuesday against re-authorization of the law, which offers protections and aid to victims of domestic violence.”

Ross concluded, “Ron Johnson has shown Wisconsin women with his words, his votes, his actions, his inaction and his endorsements that he not only doesn’t understand how serious the issues of sexual assault and violence against women are, but that he can’t be trusted to do anything to stop it.”
