#WalkerAt20: ‘Divide and Conquer’
Remembering 20 Years of Walker Failure
MADISON, Wis. — In his twenty years in office, Scott Walker has amassed a truly astounding record of failure. To commemorate the looming anniversary of his first election to office, One Wisconsin Now is highlighting a different and depressing failure of Gov. Walker every day, for twenty days. On tap for today, in a rare candid moment, Gov. Walker is caught on video revealing his strategy of “divide and conquer” to billionaire Wisconsin widow and $510,000 contributor Diane Hendricks.
One Wisconsin Now Executive Director Scot Ross commented, “Scott Walker has successfully implemented his political strategy. Unfortunately, as the people of Wisconsin have discovered, ‘divide and conquer’ does not work for them. From attacks on their rights in the workplace and the ballot box to one of the worst records on job creation in the nation, Gov. Walker’s philosophy is an unquestionable failure.”
Walker’s strategic record of failure includes:
- In the weeks before launching his unprecedented attack on Wisconsin working families, newly minted Gov. Walker was caught on video revealing to Beloit billionaire Diane Hendricks that his strategy was to ”divide and conquer’ state labor organizations. [Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, 5/10/12]
- Walker’s strategy reveals a stunning level of duplicity. In the months leading up to his attack he was engaged in a campaign for the office of Governor, he did not campaign on his plan to strip 175,000 Wisconsinites of their workplace rights. [Politifact Wisconsin, 2/22/11]
- While Walker’s strategy may have appealed to Ms. Hendricks, who went on to contribute an astounding $510,000 to his campaign over the next year, his tactics triggered massive protests, unprecedented recall elections and have produced an abysmal record on jobs and the economy. One Wisconsin Now is commemorating over 20 days, the failings, scandals and imbroglios of Gov. Scott Walker’s 20-years in elected office. Gov. Walker, who was first elected to the State Assembly on June 29, 1993, has spent virtually no time in the private sector and has enjoyed nearly half his life on the taxpayers’ dime, including receiving well over $1 million in salary alone, as well as health care benefits for he and his family.
