Breaking Media Report: Walker Mulls Special Session if Racist Voter ID Law Overturned By Court

MADISON, Wis. — A breaking media report indicates that Gov. Walker is mulling a special session of the legislature in the event his voter ID law — estimated to disenfranchise 300,000 legal voters, overwhelmingly the elderly and minorities — is found unconstitutional.

The following are the statements of One Wisconsin Now Executive Director Scot Ross:

“Gov. Walker seems to be admitting the voter ID law he signed is likely to be found unconstitutional by the courts.

“He is showing that he also believes making voting more complicated and less convenient for legal voters in Wisconsin is such a priority he’ll call a special session of the legislature if or when the courts rule his racist voter ID law unconstitutional.

“The Walker Administration has been marred by cronyism, corruption and incompetence. It’s unfortunate for Wisconsin that the only area in which Gov. Walker seems to excel is his single-minded focus on stripping Wisconsinites of their rights — be it workers on the job, women seeking health care or voters at the polls.

“State Legislators ought to reject the call for a special session and choose to uphold the state constitutional right to vote instead of facilitating Gov. Walker’s latest desperate attempt to manipulate the rules on voting to give himself an unfair partisan advantage.”
