The La Crosse Tribune reported today that Assembly Speaker Mike Huebsch (R-West Salem) wants to focus on health care during the 2008 session. Given his history of inaction in this area and based on his defense of our dysfunctional status quo this is bound to be a very short discussion. Here is what the Huebsch “focus” on health care will likely produce:
- Trotting out the same tired one trick pony on healthcare, Health Savings Accounts.
- Refusing to allow Wisconsinites to have the same health care coverage that he enjoys at taxpayer expense.
Huebsch should be given some credit in that he has finally realized that health care reform is a major issue for the average Wisconsinite. Unfortunately his “focus” on the issue will be little more than a political calculation, offering nothing of substance or anything new that could legitimately be called reform.
