Latest Lazich Racist Voter Attack Effort to Undo Election Results Republicans Didn’t Like
MADISON, Wis. — The latest attack by longtime voting rights opponent Sen. Mary Lazich (R-New Berlin), specifically targets legal minority voters to purge them from the rolls much like fellow Republicans did in Florida and attempted in as many as 11 other states. The paucity of proven voting impropriety in Wisconsin, fewer than two dozen cases prosecuted since 2004 while 14 million votes were cast, reveals the impetus behind this and other GOP election law initiatives is to reduce voter participation, not protect rights.
“Mary Lazich has shown her cards once again, targeting legal minority voters for voter intimidation and suppression,” said Scot Ross, One Wisconsin Now Executive Director. “Mary Lazich should have to immediately produce the list of illegal votes she claims to have occurred, or travel back to the Jim Crow south, where her garbage efforts belong.”
Lazich’s attempt to create a minority purge list is the latest attack on the franchise by Wisconsin legislative Republicans, including voter identification, an end to Election Day registration, onerous residency requirements, restrictions on voter registration, limiting early voting, and a partisan take over of the state’s independent election and ethics administrators.
“Government should be protecting and expanding our rights, but Mary Lazich and her fellow Republicans don’t want all legal voters to exercise their right to vote,” said Ross. “The only voter fraud is partisans like Lazich, trying to suppress legal voters to achieve her political goals.”
