Nominating Ryan for A Boondoggle Award
In October Congressman Paul Ryan (R-Janesville) revealed his “Budget Boondoggle” awards. At that time we drew attention to the hypocrisy of him preaching a message of sound budget policy. We made this case because his first eight years in Congress saw him vote in favor of every single federal budget – joining the then-Republican majority in increasing the federal budget by more than $1 trillion. A few days ago the Capital Times called out Congressman Ryan for his hypocrisy in yet another budgetary area.

The Captial Times correctly points out that while he hails his “fiscal conservatism” he has repeatedly voted for defense authorization measures that were full of massive earmarks and other pork barrel spending. So perhaps Paul Ryan should be more precise when he hands out his “awards” next year. If he doesn’t start living up to his own hype maybe he should present himself with a “Boondoggle” next year.
