NRA Campaign Cash and Endorsements Put Wisconsin on Lockdown
Gun Cartel Endorsed Gov. Scott Walker, Attorney General Brad Schimel and High Court Candidate Michael Screnock Offer Silence and Inaction After 30th Mass Shooting of 2018
MADISON, Wis. — Millions of dollars in campaign spending and political endorsements by the National Rifle Association (NRA) have bought the pro-gun lobby access to top state Republicans and locked down their opposition to common sense efforts to reduce gun violence. One Wisconsin Now Executive Director Scot Ross noted, in the aftermath of 30th mass shooting of 2018 in the U.S, top Wisconsin Republicans Scott Walker and Brad Schimel and state high court candidate Michael Screnock responding with inaction and silence.
“The NRA has spent millions of dollars and wielded their political power to keep politicians from taking real action in the aftermath of horrific incidents of mass killings,” said Ross. “And Scott Walker, Brad Schimel and Michael Screnock are going along with it even as we once again mourn more innocent lives lost in senseless gun violence.”
With 17 fatalities at a Florida high school, Gov. Scott Walker issued but a single tweet indicating his, “prayers go out” to the latest victims and their families. Walker, who has benefitted from over $3.5 million in NRA spending, has consistently opposed efforts to enact common sense measures to reduce gun violence in Wisconsin.
Wisconsin’s top cop, NRA endorsed Wisconsin Attorney General Brad Schimel, has not commented. However, Schimel was quick to act after taking office, opening his door to the NRA’s lead lobbyist on his second day in office.
State Supreme Court candidate Michael Screnock has followed the lead of his fellow conservatives, not commenting on social media or via a press statement. Screnock announced his endorsement by the NRA earlier this week.
