Once Again, Speaker Paul Ryan Talks to Business Lobby, Ducks Constituents
Trump-Ryan Tax Scheme Is ‘Demonically Irresponsible Giveaway to Super Rich’
MADISON, Wis. — Republican U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan, who has refused for more than two years to have a town hall with his constituents, today is genuflecting before the state’s big business lobby about the Trump-Ryan plan to hand out tax breaks to the super rich at the expense of hard-working Wisconsinites. One Wisconsin Now Executive Director Scot Ross released the following statements:
“Paul Ryan’s tax cuts are a demonically irresponsible giveaway to the super rich.
“The Trump-Ryan scheme will give the top one percent a brand new, nearly $11,000 handout every single month. The Trump-Ryan scheme will end the estate tax so the heirs of billionaires and multimillionaires like Trump and Ryan can keep every penny of the dynastic wealth they’ve done nothing to earn.
“At the same time the House’s top dog is breaking our budget to roll over for Trump, Paul Ryan has refused to allow a vote on bills written and championed by House Democrats Mark Pocan, Gwen Moore, Ron Kind to let Wisconsin student loan borrowers refinance their federal loans just like you can a mortgage.
“The student loan bill Paul Ryan has shamefully blocked would give 515,000 Wisconsin student loan borrowers immediate lower interests rates at no net cost to taxpayers.
“It’s been two years since Paul Ryan has met face to face with his constituents. But with his track record it’s easy to see why groveling before the big business lobby instead of meeting with his constituents is his standard operating procedure.”
