One Wisconsin Now Renews Demand Rep. Vos and Sen. Darling Prove It

MADISON, Wis. — On the heels of yesterday’s admission by Sen. Glenn Grothman that he “can’t prove” his allegations of voting impropriety, One Wisconsin Now renewed its demand that incoming Assembly Speaker Robin Vos and Joint Committee on Finance co-chair Alberta Darling produce the evidence to back up similar claims they have made.

One Wisconsin Now Executive Director Scot Ross commented, “The people of Wisconsin deserve the truth from their elected officials. If Sen. Darling and Rep. Vos are going to make allegations about the integrity of our elections in the media, we need to see their proof. If they can’t prove it, they need to admit they can’t, like their colleague, Sen. Grothman.”

In an interview, Sen. Darling suggested that part or all of President Obama’s 200,000 plus vote victory in Wisconsin was due to people casting votes improperly and could have been prevented by a voter ID law. Rep. Vos claimed individuals were being allowed to register to vote on Election Day without providing sufficient proof of residency. One Wisconsin Now demanded that Darling and Vos produce the evidence to back up their claims, but to date neither has been able to do so.

“It would be a travesty if Rep. Vos and Sen. Darling are successful in their efforts to create additional barriers or outright disenfranchise hundreds of thousands of legal Wisconsin voters. It is even worse if they are allowed to justify their assault on democracy based on innuendo and unsupported allegations,” said Ross.

Both Vos and Darling have been heavily involved in efforts to make voting more difficult in Wisconsin. In addition to both voting for a voter ID law ruled unconstitutional by two judges, Vos supports eliminating same day voter registration and enshrining voted ID in the state constitution, potentially disenfranchising an estimated 300,000 legal voters. For her part, Darling is working with Assembly Rep. Joel Kleefisch to introduce legislation to eliminate same day voter registration as soon as the new legislature is seated next month.

Ross concluded, “If Senator Darling and Representative Vos continue to refuse to back up their allegations with facts they reveal them as politicians willing to twist the truth in order to make it harder to vote. Their attempts to change voting rules, based on innuendo and unproven accusations, in order to benefit themselves politically, is the real voter fraud in Wisconsin today.”
