One Wisconsin Now Statements on the People’s Victory Over Gov. Walker’s Efforts to Close Capitol
Political Move to Dampen Opposition to Reckless Budget Plan Fails
MADISON, Wis. — One Wisconsin Now Executive Director Scot Ross released the following statements regarding the failure of Gov. Scott Walker’s plan to close the State Capitol to hundreds of protesters who had intended to sleep in the Capitol for a 13th night in solidarity against the governor’s disastrous budget repair plan.
“Gov. Walker had intended to put hundreds of peaceful clergy, students, educators and working Wisconsinites out the Capitol as a show of his force – but he failed. On the heels of a controversial phone call made public and a fumbling performance on the national ‘Meet the Press’ program, Gov. Walker continues to overreach and come up short. The State Capitol, which has seen hundreds of thousands of people pour in and out of it since the details of Gov. Walker’s budget repair bill were made public two weeks ago, remains securely in the hands of the people of Wisconsin.”
