One Wisconsin Now Travels to Iowa to Share Walker “Resume of Failure”

DES MOINES — Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker is traveling to Iowa today to address a gathering of Republican Party activists in another of an increasing number out-of-state sojourns as he ponders a bid for national office. Also making the trip is One Wisconsin Now Executive Director Scot Ross, along with copies of the Walker “Resume of Failure.”

“When someone’s applying for a job, you take a look at their resume,” said Ross. “And while Gov. Walker likes to tell folks he’s turning Wisconsin around, it’s important that people get all the facts, and know that the direction he’s taking us is down, not up.”

In his speeches, Gov. Walker brags about balancing the state budget, improving the business climate and taking on special interests to make bold reforms. But Ross noted the numbers tell a very different story about the direction Walker is taking Wisconsin and whom his policies really benefit.

He said, “In Scott Walker’s warped view, responsible budgeting means the biggest cuts to public education in Wisconsin history and increasing taxes on seniors and working families and improving the business climate means more of the same failed trickle-down economics that have produced one of the worst records for job creation in the nation.”

Among the lengthy list of failures detailed in Walker’s “Resume of Failure” are:

• An abysmal rate of job creation (44th worst in nation) and stagnant wage growth (45th worst in nation);
• Dim prospects for a quick turn around (rated 50th, worst in the nation for short-term job growth prospects;
• Enactment of the largest cuts to education in Wisconsin history and calls for a radical, unpopular privatization of public schools;
• An upside down proposal to scale back state help for health insurance for children and working families that will cover fewer people but cost taxpayers more money; and,
• Attacking the rights of workers and voters.

Ross concluded, “If you think for one minute Gov. Walker will stand up for middle class and working families I say, check his references. Time and again Gov. Walker has sided with the millionaires, billionaires and special interests that underwrite his political ambitions. While he’s travelling the country giving speeches and raising money, he’s failing miserably at the job he was elected to do, create more jobs in Wisconsin.”
