MADISON, Wis. — State Senate candidate Rick Gudex has doubled down on efforts to hide his extremist views from the public. One Wisconsin Now earlier revealed he scrubbed key passages from his campaign website, then, in an October 4th radio interview, Gudex denied that he endorsed, or even read in its entirety, a radical state constitutional amendment that he endorsed in a candidate questionnaire earlier this year. The amendment in question would ban all abortions including for victims of rape and when the mother’s life is endangered and likely ban in vitro fertilization, stem cell research, and even could lead to police investigations of miscarriages.

One Wisconsin Now executive Director Scot Ross commented, “Rick Gudex was perfectly willing to endorse extremist policies when he sought the endorsement of a special interest group, but now he’s hiding his views from the public on his website and lying about them when asked directly.”

Gudex is rated “100% Pro-Life” and endorsed by Pro-Life Wisconsin. In a press release announcing their endorsement, they say: “We are proud to endorse these candidates who recognize the personhood of the preborn child and who hold the principled and compassionate ‘no-exceptions’ pro-life philosophy.”

In fact, the very first question asked by Pro-Life Wisconsin on their questionnaire is:

“Would you vote in favor of a state constitutional amendment that extends the inalienable right to life already found in the Wisconsin Constitution to all preborn children from conception? (Please see the enclosed memo on the Wisconsin Personhood Amendment [2011 Assembly Joint Resolution 77].)”

Yet, in a October 4th interview on WFDL radio in Fond du Lac Gudex said:

“Well you know what when it comes to that specific piece of legislation and I haven’t, I haven’t read the entire legislation. I’m willing to look at that legislation. I’m willing to look at any legislation that comes before me. Whether I vote or not vote on it is yet to be determined. But my mind is totally open.”

In addition to denying having a position on the radical constitutional amendment he endorsed, Ross noted that Gudex is denying he has even read the two sentence, sixty-three word long proposed change to the state constitution. This, along with a memo about the amendment, were both included in the questionnaire Gudex filled out for Pro-Life Wisconsin.

Ross concluded, “There’s no question Rick Gudex endorsed a radical state constitutional amendment. The question is, why is he lying about it now?
