Republicans Reject Results of 2018 Elections and Undermine Transition of Power
MADISON, Wis. — The following are the statements of One Wisconsin Now Executive Director Scot Ross on the actions of the Wisconsin State Legislature to consider legislation in a post-election extraordinary session to limit early voting and undermine the transition of power before Democrats, who swept every statewide office on the ballot in the November midterm elections, are sworn in:
“While Gov.-elect Evers is trying change the tone in Madison to solve problems, Republicans in the legislature are rejecting the results of the 2018 elections they lost and actively undermining the orderly transition of power.
“Robin Vos, Scott Fitzgerald and their Republican cohorts swore an oath to uphold the Constitutions of the United States and Wisconsin, and it their duty to listen to and to respect the decisions voters make in elections.
“The GOP’s scheming to limit the voices of Wisconsinites and their right to be heard after electoral results that aren’t to their liking is not only disrespectful and wrongheaded, it is unconstitutional.
“We are a Democracy only as long as elected officials don’t put themselves above the law. But that is what Wisconsin Republicans are doing with their assault on the sacred peaceful transfer of power.
“Who knows what Scott Walker will do now that he has to find a job for the first time since 1993, but ‘Destroyed Democracy in Wisconsin’ is not a skill most potential employers are looking for on a resume.”
