Roger Roth Hiding His Radical Record on Women’s Health
Rated 100 Percent on Radical Right Wing Agenda to Restrict Women’s Access to Health Care, 0 Percent of Time Talking About it in 2014
MADISON, Wis. — As a candidate for public office in 2008 and 2010 Roger Roth was endorsed as “100 percent” by a radical right-wing group that seeks to ban all abortions, even in cases of rape, incest, or when the life of the mother is threatened. This year, Roth is taking a different tack, purposely hiding his views from the public in the hopes people have forgotten his extreme positions.
“Roger Roth has pledged 100 percent support of a radical agenda that would make women second class citizens when it comes to their health care,” said One Wisconsin Now Executive Director Scot Ross. “But now he can’t run fast enough from his record.”
Among the positions Roth subscribed to in order to achieve his 100 percent rating are opposing abortion in all cases, even rape or incest or to save the life of the mother, banning most common forms of birth control and allowing health care providers to refuse to provide women with legal prescription medication.
As a member of the state legislature, Roth acted on his extreme views, voting against measures to provide equity in prescription coverage by health insurance, including birth control, and ensuring pharmacies would fill prescriptions for birth control.
Ross concluded, “Roger Roth can run, but he can’t hide his extreme views. He has pledged his support for outlawing all abortions, even in cases of rape and incest or to save the life of the mother. And he has voted to restrict women’s ability to have their prescriptions for legal birth control filled and treated the same as other drugs for insurance coverage.”
