The Bush Economy: Wheres the Good News?

The Bush Administration has constantly claimed that its policies have ushered in a picture perfect economy. The obvious question has been, for whom? If the policies of this administration have been helpful to anyone it has been the very rich and those that add to their fortunes through investment. The Bush economy has not been kind to those that toil and labor to make a living.

After record numbers of jobs were made in the mid to late 1990’s, the Bush Administration proceeded to lose record numbers.

More people have slipped into poverty during the Bush Administration.

The ranks of those lacking proper health care coverage has grown.

The cost of energy, health care and just about everything else continues to grow well beyond the means of working Americans.

Given their lack of concern for real consumer protection and regulatory enforcement, they did nothing to prevent the mortgage crisis that we now find ourselves in. This crisis has helped to spawn a terrible housing market and negatively impacted our entire economy.

All of this and now the most recent jobs figures contributed to the worst market opening since 1904 last week. Many have been worrying about recession recently and these jobs numbers combined with everything else, have worsened those fears. Given their record, it is not likely that the Bush Administration will ever see the error of their ways. We can only hope that the next administration will learn from the Bush failures and that the damage can be reversed.
