The Most Fitting Moment of the Night
After the governor delivered his State of the State address, he was followed by a pre-recorded response by Assembly Speaker Mike Huebsch. The most fitting moment of the night, however, came when Senate Minority Leader Scott Fitzgerald tried to deliver his response. While the Governor delivered a speech with a clear attempt at cooperation, Fitzgerald’s screed was overflowing with partisanship, complete with all of the ignorant comments that we have come to expect from him.
After years of providing zero leadership on health care reform, Fitzgerald spent most of his time complaining about Healthy Wisconsin. He blustered about the $15 billion investment to cure our dysfunctional system, yet he totally ignored the much larger price tag for his continued and careless inaction.

Either Fitzgerald has never read the actual Healthy Wisconsin plan or he was being deliberately dishonest in his remarks tonight. He, once again, used the old conservative standby, calling the plan a “government takeover” and that it would lead to “rationed care”. He made these baseless claims while he clearly doesn’t mind the government paying for his generous health care package which covers his entire family for only $2 a day.
Fitzgerald even managed to work in sneering contempt for immigrants where he also demonstrated his own inability to navigate the English language. It was humerous that at that point of his speech his eyes shifted back and forth as he was unable to read his own words from the teleprompter. A few things are very clear after watching Fitzgerald tonight. He has no substantive plans and will be offering no real solutions. He seems content to only offer blind partisanship and ignorant bluster.
