#WalkerAt20: Friends’ Felonious Failures
Remembering 20 Years of Walker Failure
MADISON, Wis. — In his twenty years in office, Scott Walker has amassed a truly astounding record of failure. To commemorate the looming anniversary of his first election to office, One Wisconsin Now is highlighting a different and depressing failure of Gov. Walker every day, for twenty days. Today we examine the close aides and associates, with whom Gov. Walker has surrounded himself, failures to follow the law.
“The fact that Gov. Walker is the only Wisconsin Governor to have a criminal legal defense fund and that six of his close aides and associates were guilty of crimes ranging from embezzlement to illegal campaign activity really captures the essence of his failure of leadership,” commented One Wisconsin Now Executive Director Scot Ross.
The failures of Gov. Walker and his criminal cronies include:
- 6 aides and associates, including his Deputy Chief of Staff in Milwaukee County and a longtime aide who served him in various capacities, pled guilty to felony crimes; [Associated Press, 3/1/13]
- The felonies included embezzling from a fund established to benefit the widows and children of service men and women killed in the line of duty, illegal laundering of campaign contributions and engaging in illegal campaign activity on public time by public employees that reported directly to Walker; [Associated Press, 3/1/13]
- Walker is the only Wisconsin Governor to have a criminal legal defense fund. He needed it to pay for legal services during a John Doe criminal investigation. The fund received over $447,000 in donations from individuals whose identities the Governor has refused to reveal. [Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, 3/10/12]
One Wisconsin Now is commemorating over 20 days, the failings, scandals and imbroglios of Gov. Scott Walker’s 20-years in elected office. Gov. Walker, who was first elected to the State Assembly on June 29, 1993, has spent virtually no time in the private sector and has enjoyed nearly half his life on the taxpayers’ dime, including receiving well over $1 million in salary alone, as well as health care benefits for he and his family.
