Walker’s Message to Gay Haters: “I Hate Gays”
Read Milwaukee County’s life-long-health-benefits-on-the-public-dime Executive Scott Walker’s statement on the Milwaukee County Board’s Personnel Committee decision to support domestic partner benefits for employees.
‘I will veto the Domestic Partner Benefits plan approved by the County Board’s Personnel Committee today. Now is not the time to be adding any new benefits for public employees, let alone this specific benefit,” he wrote Friday.
Repeat: “…let alone this specific benefit.”
That’s the message of either a right-wing, anti-gay extremist or a shameless panderer.
Knowing Walker, it’s a heaping helping of both.
Read the statement again. Can you feel simmering hate he’s conveying for gay people who want to be treated like other committed hetero couples who benefit from family health care options like married couples employed by Milwaukee County?
“…let alone this specific benefit.”
It wasn’t enough for Walker to say he opposes “any new benefits for public employees,” he had to add a note that he’s extra happy to veto because it involves gay people.
It’s even more offensive coming from someone like Walker, whose entire adult life has been on the public dole, who gets health care for he, his wife and their two kids because we pay taxes to the state and to Milwaukee County.
Once again, Walker is using his taxpayer-funded office to advance right-wing, knuckle-dragging ideology in order to help him in a state-wide Republican primary. He can’t govern — he simply offers an apocalypse of a county budget and quietly crosses his fingers the County Board will veto enough of his lunatic provisions to keep basic county services from imploding.
Now he tosses out a press release, clearly designed to show the GOP primary base, he’s more anti-gay than Mark Neumann.
Let’s call it as it is: if you oppose benefits for committed same-sex couples, you’re denying the humanity of gay people to exist in families in our society, and it means you hate gays. If you single out this population for discrimation in family benefits, it means you hate gays.
And if you send out a press release saying “I will veto the Domestic Partner Benefits plan approved by the County Board’s Personnel Committee today. Now is not the time to be adding any new benefits for public employees, let alone this specific benefit,” you clearly want everyone to know, you hate gays.
So why don’t you have the guts to say it Walker? If you hate gays, fess up.
Nah, you won’t do that, will you? You’ll hide behind coded language, winking, nodding and play pattycake with your fellow-hate mongers.
Coward.
You know, if gay people don’t have rights, in Walker’s opinion, why should they have to pay taxes to will in part go for his salary and for his family’s health care…”let alone this specific benefit”?
