Attention WMC: Businesses want to come to Wisconsin
Despite the best efforts of WMC to scare businesses away from Wisconsin with their never-ending ‘tax-hell’ rhetoric, Wisconsin is attracting companies and good-paying, family-supporting jobs.
The Wisconsin State Journal reports the University Research Park has nine new business tenants, three of which were companies moving to Wisconsin from other states. The nine new biotech and infotech firms are a welcome addition to a tech sector in Wisconsin that is growing despite the Bush economic meltdown.
The jobs these companies will bring are just the kind of jobs we need to attract. According to Mark Bugher, University Research Park Director, the average salary for a job at the Research Park is about $60,000.
The fact these companies came to Madison is further proof that progressive policies are good for working families AND for businesses. Right-wing talkers like Vicki McKenna who claim Madison is so horrible, led by a bunch of ‘wacko’ liberals (‘78 square miles surrounded by reality’) and somehow bad for business are just flat-out wrong. Madison and the communities around it continuously rank in the top 10 cities in which to live. Earlier this year, Madison was called the best city to find a job in a recession. We have great schools and beautiful green spaces. Now, even in the face of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, Madison attracts new jobs, start-up companies, and companies relocating from other places.
If the rest of ‘reality’ surrounding Madison wants to make all their dreams of new jobs and economic recovery come true, it’s simple: look to Madison as an example and work to adopt progressive policies.
