Fox News labels Sanford a Dem — oh yeah, and Foley too and a bunch of other times.
Stop me if you heard this one before.
Fox News “accidententally” identified known-Argentian-loverboy Mark Sanford (R-Governor, South Carolina) as a Democrat today. Here’s a screen capture (via HuffingtonPost):
Just an honest mistake the news network that slobbered all over the disastrous Bush administration would whoops mis-label Sanford as a D-sinner?
Not quite. Here’s another screen capture of known-underage-boy-seducer former Congress Creep Mark Foley (R-Florida) also from the Huffington Post:
But wait there’s even more.
Here’s are several additional occurences of Faux News Channel getting it wrong at the expense of Democrats or in favor of Republicans I found over at Raw Story:
When Democratic strategist Michael Brown appeared on Fox, the network listed on his resume “Head of FEMA, 2003-2005” — evidently placing the blame for the Bush administration’s epically poor response to Hurricane Katrina square on the shoulders of the Democratic party insider.
Then there was the 2007 incident in which Fox News declared that I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby, the former chief of staff to then-Vice President Dick Cheney, had been found “not guilty of lying to FBI investigators” — the exact opposite of what had, in fact, happened.
Or the time Fox News twice labeled Joe Liebermann a Democrat during a segment on the Iraq War in which Liebermann was critcizing the Dems’ attempts to stand up to the hawks in the GOP. Sean Hannity was doing the goading, and Liebermann talked about supporting Republican candidates and how different his stance on the war was from other Dems. Funny thing? Joe left the party and is an independent. And whatever he calls himself these days, he ain’t no Dem.
Then there’s this time — when official Fox transcripts of Alberto Gonzales’ testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee in 2007 identified Arlen Specter (R-Pennsylvania) as a Democrat. Ah, just a bit of foresight by Brit Hume predicting Specter’s official defection to the Democrats in 2009, right? Wrong. Specter’s testimony immediately following the flub said the committee was looking carefully to determine if Alberto’s “credibility [had] been breached to the point of being actionable.”
Over and over again, Fox News gets it wrong in favor of Republicans. It can no longer be considered accidental. Fox News is an alternative reality where down is up, lies are considered truth, the family values party is full of adulterers, draft-dodgers like Cheney can talk about war, and “fiscal conservatives” like Paul Ryan (R-WI) explode the national debt and get a pass. And all the while, the mouth-breathing masses (or at least the 20% of you self-identified conservatives that are left) are too happy to oblige and pretend like it’s all not a lie.
