Twenty-Five Wisconsin Republicans Share the Views of Rep. Steve King

King Opposes Rape, Incest Exceptions to Abortion Bans, and They Do Too

MADISON, Wis. — Iowa Congressional Rep. Steve King is the subject of national attention and condemnation for an unhinged rant explaining his opposition to rape and incest exceptions to abortion bans. As reported by the Des Moines Register, King, “told the Westside Conservative Club on Wednesday that humanity might not exist if not for rape and incest.”

While they have not made similar comments publicly, twenty-five Wisconsin state legislators share King’s radical policy position, according to their rating as “100 percent” by a right-wing group that opposes abortion in all circumstances.

“The views of Steve King on denying the victims of rape and incest health care are truly appalling,” said One Wisconsin Institute Executive Director Analiese Eicher. “It’s disturbing that twenty five current Wisconsin state legislators on are the record agreeing with him on this policy.”

According to the group Pro-Life Wisconsin, a legislator or candidate must support their entire agenda to receive their endorsement. Based on information distributed by the right-wing radicals, twenty five current Wisconsin state legislators agreed with their entire platform in exchange for their endorsements in their campaigns in either 2014, 2016 or 2018.

In addition to supporting a complete ban on all abortions with no exceptions, like Rep. King, the group wants to radically rewrite of the Wisconsin State Constitution. Their amendment would, in addition to banning all abortions, have the effect of outlawing almost all forms of birth control. Analyses of similar efforts in other states suggest the changes would likely ban in vitro fertilization, stem cell research and could even result in police investigations of miscarriages.

The legislators endorsing the radical right-wing agenda and sharing Rep. King’s abortion policy views are Senators Jacque, LeMahieu, Stroebel and Craig and Representatives Sortwell, Tusler, Hutton, Sanfellipo, Brandtjen, Tittl, Katsma, Vorpagel, Magnafici, Dittrich, Born, Ballweg, Thiesfeldt, Schraa, Murphy, Gundrum, Ramthun, Brooks, Kulp, Krug and Wichgers.
