New State Legislative Session, Same Republican Leadership, Same Republican Failure
New Session Offers No New Solutions to Issues Facing Wisconsinites Across State
MADISON, Wis. — One Wisconsin Now Executive Scot Ross released the following statements on the new Wisconsin legislative session and the incoming legislators. Wisconsin Republicans will enjoy their largest majority in generations.
“With a Republican-controlled legislature Wisconsin has been left behind after a record-setting 81 straight months of private sector job creation under President Obama. Wisconsin continues to lag in wages. Wisconsin is in the top five in the nation for percentage of university graduates saddled with crippling student loan debt. Wisconsin public schools have been stripped of badly-needed resources while the unaccountable private school cartel takes more and more money with less accountability. Wisconsin continues to be ground zero for state sanctioned voter suppression and disenfranchisement. And Wisconsin Republicans have seen to it that women, minorities, LGBTQ persons, poor people and workers are treated like second class citizens.
“Wisconsin Republicans give billions of dollars in tax breaks to the rich and corporations and at the same time our state can’t pay its bills and Republicans can’t fund simple road construction in areas across the state.
“Today a new legislature will take office but Republicans are only offering more of the same failure to make the lives of Wisconsinites better. Gov. Scott Walker and each and every legislative Republican own this catastrophe. And it is up the people of Wisconsin to demand their fair share.”
