One Wisconsin Now Statements on Participation in WMC Protest

WMC Gave $1 Million to Elect Walker, Legislative Action Includes WMC Agenda of Deregulation, Privatization, $2.3 Billion in Tax Breaks for Corporations, Wealthy

MADISON, Wis. — One Wisconsin Now Executive Director Scot Ross released the following statements regarding One Wisconsin Now’s participation in the protest at the Capitol and headquarters of Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce, scheduled for noon today. One Wisconsin Now has led the fight for accountability for the state’s largest and most powerful business lobbying group, including creation of the warehouse of information about the group, http://www.WMCWatch.org.

“Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce, by its own admission, spent nearly $1 million to elect Gov. Scott Walker and he has paid that back by passing WMC’s destructive, anti-worker, anti-middle class agenda. Gov. Walker and the Republican-controlled legislature have passed and are about to pass tax breaks for corporations and the rich that will cost the state of Wisconsin taxpayers $2.3 billion over the next decade. At the same time, they are raising taxes on the working poor by $60 million, dismantling public education by $1.6 billion and slashing the University of Wisconsin by $250 million. These are the wrong choices for Wisconsin. They will not create jobs. And they will drive our state into Wisconsin’s version of the Great Middle Class Depression.”
