One Wisconsin Now Statements on Van Hollen ‘Sunshine Week’ Assault on Open Government

Van Hollen Does Part to Further Republican Attack on Working Families

MADISON, Wis. — One Wisconsin Now Executive Director Scot Ross released the following statements regarding Republican Attorney General JB Van Hollen’s attack on open government. Van Hollen is appealing Dane County Judge, and Tommy Thompson appointee, Mariann Sumi’s temporary restraining order against Gov. Scott Walker’s illegally-passed so-called budget repair bill, that uses the government to take away the rights of workers.

“Attorney General JB Van Hollen again has shown that he is the most partisan, political attorney general the state of Wisconsin has ever had to endure. JB Van Hollen poses for endless holy pictures when it comes to open government, but when the rubber meets the road, he is front and center defending the illegal actions taken by his fellow Republicans in the state Senate. That Van Hollen is doing his part to help Gov. Scott Walker during ‘Sunshine Week’ is all the more of a slap in the face to the hundreds of Department of Justice personnel, and the people of Wisconsin. Van Hollen knows sure as God made little green apples, that this bill was illegally passed by the Senate, but Van Hollen answers to a higher calling: the Koch brothers, the Republican State Leadership Committee, Wall Street and the corporate money machine that pulls his strings.”
